Bit of a quickie, but I’ve had multiple people ask me about PSVR2, given that I was an early adopter of both the headset itself (hell, I bought my PS5 for that purpose) and its PC VR support, and the price for the Steam Frame is pretty astronomical. It’s a bit weird because when I was talking about my headset, people were telling me they were waiting specifically for Deckard (or, what’d become the Steam Frame now.)

I presume most people are going to be streaming their games from a PC, so if wireless VR isn’t something you care about and fresnel lenses don’t bother you, honestly just get a PSVR2. You get a headset with OLED and inside-out tracking, and with PSVR2Toolkit you get pretty good eye tracking. The only downside in my opinion has been the fresnel lenses, but I’ve been rocking it for three years and it’s served me well for VR gaming. A PSVR2 headset plus the PC adapter will set you back a lot less than the Steam Frame, and if you already have a PS5, go buy No Man’s Sky there. The VR mode on that is fucking phenomenal.

What are the privacy implications? I don’t know. And I don’t care. I’m so burnt out by privacy ideologues that even the Gamers Nexus clip about Meta makes me roll my fucking eyes. You have to run Windows to use this headset without frustration anyway (while there is Linux support, Linux VR in general is jank from what I heard, especially for wired VR.)

And no, you don’t need a PSN account to use it. You do need a Steam one tho, because the drivers are only available via Steam (given that you’re probably using SteamVR, this isn’t a downside.)
